Lessons Learned

Yesterday I was told by a veteran trucker that trucking is a whole lot of waiting with a bit of sheer terror thrown in.  We got our call and after waiting 4+ hours to load the truck we finally headed out of Vegas Tuesday late afternoon; Lesson One - patience; check; will keep you posted on the sheer terror.   I’m getting my sea legs as Charlie calls them and actually made a sandwich and had dinner in the moving truck somewhere around Barstow without falling down or making a mess.

We made it Alisa Veijo Cali after midnight and scoped out Pepsi where we had to deliver at 7 am the next morning.  Thank goodness we found a Walmart close enough to camp at and creep in “Stealth Mode” to Pepsi because we hadn’t been stopped for our 10 hours of mandatory sleeper bunk time.  Delivery was successful and back to Walmart to await orders.  Unfortunately while Charlie was out of the truck dealing with the delivery I managed to somehow burn a hole in my seat.  Yes, the seat of his brand spanking new 2011 Kenworth that no ones butt has been in and of course it couldn't have been on the other side where he can't see it.  Charlie wins the bet since I didn’t make it 24 hours without destroying something.  Damn!!

Then off to Walmart to look for a fabric seat repair kit which was unsuccessful and a stroll around the strip mall.   Got the roast in the crock pot and we’re off to LA where we’ll sit in a parking lot til tomorrow – a few deliveries and pick ups (one in Calexico CA – can you say sheer terror alert) and then we’re headed for Florence Kentucky!!
